Chennai: The Tamilnadu police continue to register cases, seize vehicles and impose fine on those who are not adhering to rules of lockdown.
Over the past few months, the government has given a few relaxations to ease the situation. The State police have booked nearly 9,96,812 persons for violating norms of lockdown.
Since 24 March, in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 and to enforce social distancing, the State police have been arresting those who ventured out during curfew.
Close to 8,99,911 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts and FIRs have been registered against them, a press release from DGP’s office said today. As many as 6,94,180 vehicles were seized from these persons.
However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner. A total amount of Rs 21,80,10,853 has been collected from violators as fines, the release added.
