Chennai: The Tamilnadu police continue to be tough with violators of lockdown rules arresting as many as 9,98,491 persons.
Since 24 March, in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 and to enforce social distancing, the State police have been arresting those who ventured out during curfew.
Close to 9,01,048 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts and FIRs have been registered against them, a press release from DGP’s office said today.
As many as 6,94,533 vehicles were seized from these persons. However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner.
A total amount of Rs 21,90,01,793 has been collected from violators as fines, the release added.
