Fantasy sports gain momentum: Report

Chennai: IndiaTech.Org, a non-profit organisation focused on building the world’s largest internet commerce ecosystem, has unveiled the findings of its white paper – “Online Fantasy Sports: Adding Value to the Indian Sporting Ecosystem”.

The paper brings to light the playing pattern of OFS users, the current regulatory landscape, misplaced perceptions plaguing the industry and the positive impact of the industry on Indian sports and the overall economy.

The study finds that 80 per cent of the online fantasy sports (OFS) users prefer participating in the ‘free-to-play’ format and 98 per cent of the 20 per cent who ‘pay-to-play’, have either won or lost less thanINR 10,000net in their lifetime (past three to four years). This reinforces the fact that fantasy sports are a competitive digital sports engagement platform and clearly not in the nature of addiction.

Meanwhile, MyTeam11, one of the leading fantasy sports platforms of the country, has unveiled its campaign named ‘India Ki Apni Fantasy App’ around the Indian T-20 season.

The campaign was launched through videos wherein cricket experts can be seen recommending and creating their own teams in the app. It features MyTeam11’s brand ambassador Virender Sehwag along with newly signed campaign ambassador for the Indian T-20 season, former New Zealand fast bowler and renowned cricket commentator Danny Morrison.
