Corona testing numbers coming down in Chennai?

Chennai: The cases of coronavirus in Chennai continue to be on a decline. However, the number of testing being done on people have also dropped by a margin.

On 15 September, 12,310 tests were carried out, and yesterday only 11,942 were tested by the city Corporation.  This morning, the number of active cases is 9,833. Yesterday the numbers were at 9,883.

According to data compiled by Greater Chennai Corporation, the city has recorded 1,51,560 cases of which 1,38,714 have recovered. The death toll in the city has reached 3,013. The recovery rate is at 92 per cent, active cases are at 6 per cent and death toll rate is at 1.99 per cent.

Highest number of lives were claimed in Teynampet with 402 persons succumbing to the virus. The second highest casualty rate is in Anna Nagar with 339 lives being claimed by the viral infection.

The Chennai Corporation gave an area-wise break-up of the places which have high numbers of Covid-19.

According to the data, in Kodambakkam there are 1,140 cases. Other places with comparatively high numbers are, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar with 863 cases, Anna Nagar with 993 cases, Royapuram with 828 cases. In Anna Nagar, as many as 15,657 persons have recovered.

The pandemic has affected more men than women. As per data, 60.92 per cent of the patients are male and 39.08 per cent are female.

Around 18.61 per cent of those contracting the virus is from the age group of 50-59 years.
