Chennai: The Tamilnadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has condoled the death of legendary Australian cricketer and commentator Dean Jones, who died in Mumbai following a massive cardiac arrest.
TNCA secretary R S Ramasaamy, in his message said the TNCA deeply condoles the sad and untimely demise of cricketer and commentator Dean Jones.
An extraordinary cricketer known for his gutsy batting, running between the wickets and fielding, his most memorable innings at Chennai was in the 1986 hsitoric Tied Test where he scored 210, battling illness and dehydration.
A great supporter of TNPL, he was there right from the inception as one of the most popular commentators and toured the state to cover the tournament.
“We will treasure those wonderful moments he spent with us during TNPL”, he said, adding, “our deepest sympathies go out to his family members”.
Meanwhile, many Tamil film personalities have also expressed condolences over the death of Jones.
Producer G Dhananjayan said, “What the hell! #DeanJones (59) a cheerful & enthusiastic commentator is no more. Died of massive cardiac attack. Life is so uncertain & unpredictable. RIP”
Actress Priyamani said, “Shocked to hear that #DeanJones passed away! May his soul RIP??”
Actress Sriya Reddy said, “#DeanJones #rip legend truly a sad day for cricket lovers and for the cricket fraternity!”
RJ Balaji said, “Shocked and devastated to know that Dean Jones is no more. We were traveling in the same car last night. Still couldn’t believe it is true. Life is so fragile. You’ll be missed Deano.”
