After 83 days, TN’s daily Covid cases go below 5,000 mark

Chennai: For the first time in almost three months (83 days to be precise), fresh cases in Tamilnadu dropped below the 5,000 mark on Monday when the State recorded 4,879 cases, which took the case tally to 6,61,264 cases.

It was on 21 July that the state recorded a daily case count of less than 5,000. On that day, the new infections were 4,965 and the next day the daily cases crossed the 5,000 mark.

The 62 deaths recorded took the cumulative toll to 10,314. Active cases too dipped marginally to 43,747. Another 5,165 persons were discharged after treatment and 62 more persons (33 in government hospitals and 29 in private facilities) succumbed to the infection.

With this, a total of 6,07,203 persons have been discharged so far and 10,314 persons have died. A total of 43,747 persons are presently under treatment in the State.

On 30 July, the fresh cases that fell below the 6,000 mark continued to be so but above 5,000, barring two days in the last week of August when the daily count breached 6,000.
