Tax issue: Rajini says he learnt from experience

Chennai: A day after the Madras High Court asked Rajinikanth to withdraw his petition challenging Greater Chennai Corporation’s order demanding property tax for his Sri Raghavendra Mandapam, the actor tweeted that he should have gone to the civic body for review.

Owning up responsibility for the issue, he tweeted, “I should have gone to Corporation straight for review. Learning by experience”.

Rajinikanth withdrew his petition from the Madras High Court after the court said the actor ought to have issued a reminder to the local body before coming to court. Meanwhile, sources said he has paid the tax amount to the Corporation today.

The actor claimed in his petition that he has sought remission of property tax from the local body, citing lack of business due to the coronavirus pandemic and refund of all advance payments since lockdown started in March.
