Chennai: As many as 27 private hospitals in Tamilnadu have been taken to task by the Tamilnadu Health department for violations that included charging exorbitant fees for Covid-19 treatment and deviating from standard treatment protocol.
The department has temporarily cancelled the license to provide Covid-19 treatment for nine hospitals.
They are Bewell Hospital, Kilapuk; Appaswamy Hospital, Arumbakkam; SRM Medical hospital, Trichy; Hindu Mission Hospital, Tambaram; City Hospital, Virudhunagar; Priyam Hospital, Salem; Sri Lakshmi Medical Centre, Coimbatore; City Hospital, Thoothukudi; and Scudder Memorial Hospital, Ranipet.
Meanwhile, the Health department will commence a State-wide serosurveillance study on Covid-19 exposure soon.
Serosurveillance study is conducted to ascertain the antibody levels produced against the infection by testing blood (serum or plasma) samples.
According to Tamilnadu Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan, in the first phase, of the 60,000 blood samples to be collected from all the districts, nearly 30,000 would be tested for the antibodies.
