Chennai: If the records presented by the Greater Chennai Corporation are anything to go by, the cases of coronavirus in the city are declining by the day.
There are six areas with more than 1,000 cases and other neighbourhoods have comparatively low numbers of positive cases.
The tally of positive cases this morning in the city is 13,304 which is seven per cent.
Since March, Chennai has recorded 1,86,667 cases of Covid-19, of which 1,69,890 have recovered since the pandemic began in March. Chennai is showing 91 per cent recovery rate. Nearly, 3,473 persons have died due to the viral infection.
As per data, 437 persons have died in Teynampet, 392 casualties were reported in Anna Nagar and 384 lives were claimed in Kodambakkam.
On 16 October, 13,688 tests were carried out by the city Corporation’s health department, an effective way to curtail spread.
The Greater Chennai Corporation gave an area-wise break-up of the places which have high numbers of Covid-19.
According to the data, there are 1,299 cases in Anna Nagar, 1,138 positive cases in Teynampet,1,082 cases in Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar and 1,198 cases in Kodambakkam. As many as 1,035 persons tested positive in Adyar and 873 persons in Ambattur have the infection.
The pandemic has affected more men than women. As per data, 61.28 per cent of the patients are male and 38.72 per cent are female.
Around 18.86 per cent of those contracting the virus is from the age group of 30-39 years.
