CSK: Falling from glory to gallows

Chennai: Much was expected from M S Dhoni when he along with team took to field in IPL13 a few weeks ago. They began with a bang defeating defending champs Mumbai Indians in the opener. But what followed was a disaster. From 10 matches the ‘Men in Yellow’ won just three with chances of playing play-off is absolutely remote. Team composition. batting order, death bowling and poor ground fielding led them down.

Fans allege that CSK showed no intensity on the field. They lacked the will to win, they add.

Of course, the team missed Raina the whole tournament and injury to Bravo during crucial moment cost us two points. But when compared to others, CSK was far behind. They could hardly accelerate scoring even in death overs, say a few,
What shocked several sport-lovers was that at the post-match presentation after the loss against Rajasthan, CSK skipper Dhoni, pretty uncharacteristically stated that the youngsters have lacked ‘spark’ this season. He said, ‘It’s fair enough the criticism for not playing youngsters, this season we weren’t there. Maybe we didn’t see as much spark from some of our youngsters. Maybe going forward we bring them in and they play without pressure’

Former India cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth immediately reacted to the statement made by Dhoni and slammed it.
‘A guy like Jagadeesan… you’re saying youngsters don’t have spark, does Kedar Jadhav have spark? Did Piyush Chawla show spark? Come on, this is all ridiculous, I will not accept his answers today. By going on and on about the process, CSK’s tournament is going to end,’ he said.

Jagadeesan played just one game and scored 33 runs, while Jadhav in six gams managed just 63. Imran Tahir whoo is an excellent spinner was never given a chance.

Too much dependence on foreign players, no attacking young batsmen from India and Dhoni coming at the last proved costly, say many.

The fact that the likes of Watson and Rayudu had mixed tournament and Dhoni not able to show his vintage class of hitting boundaries at will played spoilsport on our chances, feel CSK supporters.

The need of the hour is to increase young blood in the team and up the intensity for next edition of IPL. Win and loss are part and parcel of any game. But to lose in such fashion is deplorable, feel fans.

Dhoni has bounced back from tough situations in the past. Hopefully he will do it in 2021 too, states his supporters.
