Stalin writes to Modi, puts pressure on EPS

Chennai: DMK president and Leader of Opposition in Tamilnadu Assembly MK Stalin has penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to ensure reservation for OBC candidates in medical admissions under All India quota in this academic year itself.

Also, he has urged Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to exert sufficient pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get 50 per cent reservation in medical seats for OBCs in the all India quota this year itself.

The Chief Minister should place as a condition that if the reservation is not implemented this year, the AIADMK will not have any alliance with the BJP, Stalin said.

In a letter to Modi, Stalin said, “it would be an unimaginable loss to our country, especially during the time of an unprecedented pandemic, if students from underprivileged communities are not provided the opportunities to study medicine and serve our country.”

He added: “I, therefore, urge you to immediately intervene in the interest of the Other Backward Classes’ students and ensure that the Committee finalizes the Terms of Implementation for the execution of the state-specific quota, in accordance with the judgment of the Hon’ble Madras High Court, so that reservation can be implemented during this Academic Year.”
