Chennai: The health condition of Tamilnadu Agriculture Minister R Doraikkannu, who is being treated in Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital for Covid-19 pneumonia and its complications, remains ‘very critical’, sources said.
The minister is on ECMO and life support and is being treated by a team of experts in an intensive care ward of the hospital.
In a statement, the hospital said, “Maintaining the functions of vital organs continues to be a challenge considering his comorbidities. He is on maximal life support and his response to treatment over next 24 hours will determine the prognosis.”
Doraikkannu was taken to a hospital in Villupuram district after he complained of chest pain and breathing problem. He had complained of ill-health while he was travelling to Salem to pay homage to Chief Minister K Palaniswami’s mother. He was then shifted to Chennai.
Palaniswami visited the hospital on Sunday and Doraikkannu’s cabinet colleagues paid a visit to the hospital on Monday too.
