Chennai: Tamilnadu is continuing to register a dip in new infections. On Tuesday, the State recorded 2,522 fresh Covid-19 cases and 27 more deaths, pushing the tally to 7,14,235 and toll to 10,983.
According to the State health department, Chennai’s daily case count dipped further to 695, while Coimbatore recorded 209 cases. While 146 persons tested positive in Salem, there were 144 fresh cases in Chengalpattu.
It added that as many as 4,029 persons were discharged from hospitals across the State. With this, 6,75,518 persons have been discharged so far, and 27,734 persons are undergoing treatment.
As per statistics from the Health department, after testing 69,344 people for the viral infection, the eleven northern districts together reported 51% fresh cases and 40 per cent deaths on Tuesday.
Tamilnadu does not use Rapid Antigen Diagnostic Tests (RADT) and all the tests are RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction based).
A private lab was granted permission to conduct Covid-19 testing, taking the total number of facilities operating in the State to 201 of which 135 is owned by private and 66 government.
