DVAC raids Tamilnadu government offices, seizes huge money

Chennai: Ahead of Assembly elections in the State and with the festival season kicking in, officials of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) carried out raids to unearth illegal or unaccounted cash in Tamilnadu government offices.

The raids turned out to be a huge action in the recent past with massive sums of money being seized.

In the past one month the DVAC officials had been on a raiding spree with ‘surprise checks’ at Sub-Registrar offices, Mines department, RTO offices and TASMAC outlets.

Most of the raids were planned based on calls from the public who reached out to the DVAC using the phone numbers displayed in government establishments.

As per reports, in October raids were carried out in 35 premises of State government officials leading to a seizure of more than Rs 4.12 crore.

Reports stated that nearly Rs 33.73 crore was unearthed from M Panneerselvam who serves as the zonal officer, Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board, Vellore.

A high ranking officer in the Geology and Mining department, Dindigul came under the scanner with Rs 5.1 lakh unaccounted cash being found from his house and office. Huge money was seized from a Sub-Registrar too, it is said.
