Chennai: Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will announce the State government’s decision today on further relaxating lockdown norms.
This comes a few days after he held discussions with District Collectors and healthcare experts.
At the meeting Palaniswami had with District Collectors and healthcare experts on Wednesday, it was reportedly recommended to continue restrictions on schools, colleges and theatres, to further control the spread of Covid-19 in Tamilnadu.
“Based on the inputs, the Chief Minister will take a decision and announce it today or tomorrow,” sources said.
Palaniswami said at the meeting, “the Deepavali festival is around the corner. In Chennai, there are streets full of people, many of whom are not wearing masks. The police should continuously create awareness. Only then will we have a situation where everyone is wearing a mask and be able to stop the spread of the virus.”
The Chief Minister said that the officials were directed to be cautious ahead of the festival season. “Corona cases have come down in the State due to the measures taken by the government. Tamilnadu government has issued more that four crore face masks. Necessary PPEs are in stock. So far 96 lakh people have been tested,” he said.
