US election results: Suspense prevails as Trump and Biden deliver mixed results

Washington: The results of the keenly-contested US presidential elections are trickling in with Donald Trump and Joe Biden winning traditional strongholds.

According to reports from the US, the battle is all set to come down to a handful of key states which will see a close fight between the Democrats and Republicans.

The first results are trickling in, with US media projecting wins for the Republican incumbent so far in 14 states including Indiana, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Tennessee and West Virginia — all states he won in 2016.

Joe Biden has captured 12 states including his home state Delaware and big prize New York, plus the US capital Washington. As with Donald Trump, so far, all states claimed by Biden were won by Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016. The magic number is 270.

Coming down heavily on Donald Trump on the eve of the US presidential election,Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris said that the president has failed to lead the country and America can no longer afford four more years of him.

“We’ve seen who we are. The country we love. And that is why I know that tomorrow we are going to elect Joe Biden to be the next President of the United States!” Kamala said.
