Chennai: Even as the cases of coronavirus are fast declining in the city, Health officials continue to campaign about wearing masks and maintaining handwashing practises.
According to data given by the Greater Chennai Corporation, this morning the tally of total positive cases was 6,017 which is at three per cent.
However, a recent survey stated that only one-third of people in the city wore masks correctly, covering both the mouth and nose.
The survey was conducted by the National Institute of Epidemiology and the city Corporation. The result is alarming as it shows people are taking the contagion lightly.
Since the lockdown, Chennai has recorded 2,03,685 cases of Covid-19, of which 1,93,962 have recovered over the months. Chennai is showing 95 per cent recovery rate.
Nearly 3,706 persons have died due to the viral infection. As per records, 463 persons have died in Teynampet, 416 persons have died in Anna Nagar and 413 casualties are reported in Kodambakkam.
On 6 November, 11,492 tests were carried out by the City Corporation’s health department.
Currently, Anna Nagar has 467 positive cases and 404 cases in Kodambakkam. In Anna Nagar, 21,284 persons recovered from the viral disease.
The pandemic has affected more men than women. As per data, 62.02 per cent of the patients are male and 37.95 per cent are female.
Around 19.18 per cent of those contracting the virus is from the age group of 50-59 years.
