Chennai: Leaders and people of Tamilnadu have greeted Kamala Harris, whose mother Shyamala Gopalan was a native of the State, on being elected as the Vice President of US.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said, “My heartfelt congratulations to @JoeBiden who has been elected as the 46th president of United States. I’m extremely glad that @KamalaHarris is the first woman to be elected as the Vice President of US. She has made TamilNadu proud with this astounding victory. #BidenHarris2020.”
Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said, “Ms.Kamala Harris @KamalaHarris the Vice President elect of US has proved the woman power. She has once again re established the strength of a Tamil woman, who has the grit to conquer the world. My heartfelt wishes for your success. #USElectionResults2020 #KamalaHarrisVP.”
DMK president M K Stalin tweeted, “Congratulations to the President-Elect @JoeBiden and the Vice President-Elect @KamalaHarris of the USA.Especially pleased that American people have chosen a woman with Tamil heritage as their next Vice-President in this historic election.#USPresidentialElection.”
AMMK chief T T V Dhinakaran said, “Let her actions be a matter of pride not just for Thulasenthirapuram, but all Tamils.”
PMK founder S Ramadoss, while referring to Kamala Harris’ Tamilnadu connections, wished this would help in constructive growth of Indo-US relations.
Makkal Needhi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan said, “Congratulations in order,US President elect @JoeBiden & Vice-President elect @KamalaHarris for their resounding triumph. As the first Indian-American to be elected as VP,she is an inspiration for every Indian. Thulasendrapuram, her ancestral village finds a place in world history.”
Kamala’s grandfather P V Gopalan, a former civil servant, hails from Thulasenthirapuram in Tiruvarur district in Tamilnadu and the small village is elated over her elevation. Earlier, special prayers were conducted their for her victory.
