Chennai: This morning, the city witnessed a sharp drop in the number of Covid-19 cases as fresh infections dropped below the 500 mark for the first time in 182 days.
Sources said this is a decline of 60 per cent when compared to what was being reported on a daily basis till a few weeks ago.
According to data given by the Greater Chennai Corporation, this morning the tally of total positive cases were at 4,978 which is at three per cent when compared to the cases confirmed so far.
Since the lockdown, Chennai has recorded 2,09,167 cases of Covid-19, of which 2,00,417 have recovered over the months. The recovery rate in the city is at 95 per cent.
Nearly 3,772 persons have died due to the viral infection. As per records, 475 persons have died in Teynampet, 424 persons have died in Anna Nagar and 419 casualties are reported in Kodambakkam.
On 16 November, 7,545 tests were carried out by the city Corporation’s health department.
Currently, Anna Nagar has 344 positive cases, while there are 254 cases in Kodambakkam and 198 active cases in Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar. In Anna Nagar, 22,329 persons recovered from the viral disease which is the highest in the city.
Nearly, 65.07 per cent of those affected with Covid are male and 34.89 per cent are female.
