Rains to lash Tamilnadu for next 24 hours

Chennai: Many parts of Tamilnadu will see moderate rain for the next 24 hours, as the northeast monsoon intensifies over the region.

The Meteorological Department said Saturday’s trough in easterlies now runs from the Comorin area to the west-central Bay of Bengal across the south-west Bay of Bengal off the Tamilnadu and south Andhra Pradesh coast.

Also, another trough from the Comorin area to the north Tamilnadu coast has merged with the prevailing weather system. This will trigger widespread rainfall in the State in the next few days.

According to an IMD forecast, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning may continue over Tamilnadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Lakshadweep area during next 2-3 days as a fresh easterly wave arrives over the South Peninsula.

Isolated heavy rain is likely over Tamilnadu and Puducherry during the next three days and over Coastal Andhra Pradesh today.

In view of this, the prevailing rain-driving trough along the Tamilnadu coast front-ended by a cyclonic circulation over the Comorin region to the South-South-West may weaken.
