SC extends Perarivalan’s parole by one week

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today extended by one week the parole of AG Perarivalan, serving life term in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, for medical treatment.

A three- judge bench headed by Justice LN Rao granted the parole to the convict on 23 November for a medical check-up.

Perarivalan is serving a life-term at Puzhal Central Prison near Chennai in Tamilnadu.

The apex court, while extending parole owing to his medical condition, advised him not to visit a hospital situated 200 kilometers away from his residence.

The court’s advice came after it was pointed out by Additional Advocate General of Tamilnadu, Balaji Srinivasan that Perarivalan was insistent on visiting a hospital 200 kilometers away though another hospital, CMC Vellore was only 25 kilometers from his residence.

“Please advise your client not to go to a hospital which is 200 kms away,” the Supreme Court told Perarivalan’s lawyer, Senior Counsel Gopal Sankaranarayanan.
