Chennai: The Low Pressure Area over the Bay of Bengal became well marked on Sunday and would concentrate into a depression in the next 36 hours and intensify further promising heavy rains in South Tamilnadu coast from 1-3 December.
A bulletin issued by the Met Office on very severe cyclonic storm over Bay of Bengal said the low pressure areas over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining areas of Southeast Bay of Bengal and Equatorial Indian Ocean has organised into a well marked low pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of South Andaman sea.
It is very likely to concentrate into a Depression during next 36 hours and likely to intensify further thereafter. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and reach near south Tamilnadu coast around 2 December.
Under its influence heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari districts of Tamilnadu on December one.
On 2 December, extremely heavy rain is likely to occur over Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari, Tenkasi, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar districts, heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Theni, Madurai, Sivaganga and Pudukkottai districts of Tamilnadu and heavy rain over Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvallur, Karaikal, Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram districts.
On 3 December. heavy rain is likely to occur over Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi and Virudhunagar districts of Tamilnadu.
Met office said thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at isolated places over Tamilnadu during the next 24 hours and at many places of coastal Tamilnadu, Karaikal and Puducherry and in North and Interior Tamilnadu from 1 to 3 December.
The forecast for Chennai city and its neighbourhood is that the sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Light rain is likely to occur at isolated places.
Under its influence, squally weather with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph is likely over Southwest Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar and Comorin area on 1 December.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph is likely over Southwest Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar, Comorin area and off Tamilnadu coast on 2 December.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea in these area and are also advised not to plan deep sea fishing till 2 December.
