Documents gutted in fire at Nadigar Sangam building

Chennai: A fire broke out at the Nadigar Sangam (South Indian Artistes Association) in T Nagar this morning.

The office is located on Habibullah Road and fire began spreading at 4.30 am. Subsequently, Fire and Rescue services were rushed to the spot. It took three hours for the fire to be doused. Preliminary inquiries revealed that documents, computers, inverters have been gutted in the fire.

In June 2019, the artistes associations had held elections led by two factions: Vishal Krishna, the leader of the Pandavar Ani, and its rival team leader actor K Bhagyaraj.

Since the election results are not yet declared, the office is now being administered by a revenue officer appointed by the State government. Since then, both parties are not allowed to visit the office.

The cause of the fire is still not known. However, an electric leak is suspected to have taken place in the building.
