Chennai: Actor-turned-politician Vijayashanthi is all set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today.
On Sunday, she had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, after meeting with MoS Home and BJP leader G Kishan Reddy and Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
According to party leader G Vivek Venkatswamy, “Vijayashanthi will be formally inducted in the presence of BJP chief JP Nadda. She has worked a lot in Telangana but Chief Minister KCR had sidelined everyone”.
Expressing confidence on BJP’s chances in the State, he said, “Vijayashanti will be at the forefront for the development of the party. We will definitely win in Telangana Assembly next time”.
The actress who had joined the Congress in 2014, was not active in the party’s activities for the past few months.
Having started her political journey with the BJP, she later joined TRS Party and subsequently moved to Congress.
Vijayashanthi’s move comes days after Congress’ dismal show in the recently-concluded Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls, in which it had won only two seats. The BJP on the other hand bagged 48 seats, while the ruling TRS won 55 seats.
Earlier, Congress veteran Sarve Satyanarayana switched loyalties to the BJP just days before the polls.
