Chennai: Apollo Hospitals has performed a procedure that it said transformed the life of a seven-year-old girl from Guwuhati, who was affected by an abnormal condition called discoid lateral meniscal tear on the knee.
Dr Vijay Kishore Reddy and his team successfully completed the corrective procedure on the girl Joyesmita Chando, who is the youngest to have undergone a complete keyhole procedure for discoid meniscus in India.
Recognising sudden changes in their daughter’s walking condition, worried parents of Joyesmita Chando brought her to Apollo Hospitals from Guwahati.
Medical intervention revealed that she was affected by discoid lateral meniscal tear, a rare abnormal condition in children.
As surgical treatment was often recommended for this condition, the child underwent Arthroscopic lateral discoid Meniscus saucerization and repair which was done completely through keyhole procedure, with sophisticated instrumentation designed specifically for the children.
