Chennai: Actor Rajinikanth, who had confirmed his political entry and is all set to unveil his party plans on the New Year eve, turned 70 today.
Members of the Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM) celebrated the occasion on a grand manner across the State.
Rajini had a quiet birthday celebrations with his family members away from his house. At the stroke of midnight, RMM members assembled in front of the actor’s Poes Garden residence and cut a cake to mark the occasion.
The members also performed special pujas in various temples for his well being and for his success in politics.
Posters hailing and greeting Rajini were also seen in various parts of the State.
It turned out to be double delight for his fans as the actor, who had been keeping his fans guessing for nearly three years about his political stand, at last confirmed that he would start his own political party next month and would contest the Tamilnadu Assembly elections due in April-May next year.
Annadhanam was served at various places of worship across the State. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswmai, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Union and State Ministers and Leader of the Opposition and DMK president M K Stalin besides actors and actresses, greeted Rajinikanth on his birthday.
Modi tweeted “Dear @rajinikanth Ji, wishing you a Happy Birthday!’ May you lead a long and healthy life.”
Palaniswami and Pannerselvam extended their heartfelt wishes, while Stalin spoke over phone to Rajinikanth and wished him good health.
Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar, Ramesh Pokhriyal, State Ministers SP Velumani, D Jayakumar tweeted ther greetings to Rajinikanth.
Film personalities including Chiranjeevi, Mohanlal, Ravi Teja, A R Murugadoss, Khushbu Sundar, Nivin Pauli, Nadhiya, Kichha Sudeep, Hansika, Radhika Sarathkumar, Venkat Prabhu, Premgi Amaran, Prasanna, Arun Vijay, Indian Hajj Association president Abubacker among others wished Rajinikanth today.
