Chennai: The rains are back in Tamilnadu, courtesy a cyclonic circulation prevailing near east of Sri Lanka over southwest Bay of Bengal.
According to sources, Chennai and other coastal areas might see moderate spells of rainfall in the next 48 hours.
Just like cyclone Burevi, this time too the Southern districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall.
“Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Nagercoil and Tirunelveli will continue to get moderate to heavy rain until 19 December,” said IMD officials.
As far as Chennai is concerned, the rains might not be as heavy as the last spell, but there will be cloudy skies and moderate showers across the city. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 29°C and 23°C.
The intensity of rains is expected to decrease after 17 December, but officials expect water-logging, traffic jams and flash floods in the Southern coastal areas.
