TN polls: EC starts marathon meetings

Chennai: A team of high-level delegation of the Election Commission lead by ECI’s Secretary-General Umesh Sinha held a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties in Tamilnadu here today.

Along with Sinha, the EC team also included Deputy Election Commissioners Sudeep Jain and Ashish Kundra, Bihar Chief Electoral Officer H R Srinivasa, Pankaj Srivatsava, Director and Malay Mallick, Secretary, Election Commission of India.

Tamilnadu Assembly Deputy Speaker Pollachi Jayaraman, AIADMK’s organising secretary Manoj Pandiyan took part in the meeting on behalf of the ruling party.

During their two days visit to the State to assess poll preparedness for the upcoming Assembly elections, the team will today interact with nodal officers of the Income Tax Department and will hold virtual meetings with the District Election Officers and police officials.

On 22 December, the team will hold meetings with various enforcement agencies, the Tamilnadu Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police and other State government Secretaries.

Following this, the delegation is scheduled to leave for Puducherry. It may be noted that EVMs to be used for the elections have been already brought to Coimbatore.
