TASMAC bars to open from today


Chennai: The Tamilnadu government on Monday announced that all bars operated by the Tamilnadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC), that were closed ever since the lockdown began, will resume operations from today, but with only 50 per cent occupancy.

In its official order, TASMAC permitted the functioning of liquor bar (except in containment zones) by following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

A circular given out in this regard details the SOP to the followed in all bars. “Individuals must wear masks, and have to maintain social distancing of atleast six feet whenever possible. Respiratory etiquette involving the strict practice of covering one’s mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing with a tissue or handkerchief besides prohibiting spitting inside the bars,” it said.

Other guidelines included that not more than 50 per cent of seating capacity to be permitted. Hand sanitisers must be kept at the entrance of the bar for consumers to use and thermal screening is to be done each time.
