ISRO Chairman K Sivan gets one year extension

Chennai: Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Sivan K , has been given a one-year extension, till 14 January 2022, as the Secretary, Department of Space, according to a Personnel Ministry order issued on Wednesday.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension.

Sivan joined ISRO in 1982 and was inducted into the PSLV Project. He took over as chairman in January 2018. Under his chairmanship, the space agency launched various important projects, including Chandrayaan 2, the second mission to the moon, on 22 July last year and currently working on the human spaceflight mission.

Recently, Sivan said, the space agency was developing ‘green propulsion’ for its ambitious human space flight mission ‘Gaganyaan’
