Tamil Marathon 2021 to address health, sanitation issues

Chennai: Tamil Marathon 2021, a virtual marathon event slated to take place between 10-24 January, is set to attract the participation of a record number of 1,00,000 people of all age groups from Tamilnadu, other Indian states, and nearly more than 30 countries with Tamil diaspora – reportedly making the event the world’s largest virtual marathon.

Organised by Ingenious 6, the Chennai-based Tamil Marathon is a fundraising event, aims at upgrading the health, education, sanitation and social infrastructure in about 50 villages in Tamilnadu, and to create a virtual platform exclusively to host performances of Tamil folk arts and dances. The minimum participation fee is Rs 100.

Participants can register online at https://www.tamilmarathon.org or by calling 8939932224. After registration, they will get a bib number for identification, and instructions to use the official run tracker app. They can run the race distance they signed up for, choosing their own starting line, a treadmill or a neighbourhood street. Upon completion of the run, they are required to upload their finishing time on the website.

All the participants will get an e-certificate, and a world record e-badge. And depending on their registration plan, they can get a t-shirt – and upon completing the race distance, a physical finisher’s medal. The winners in all the race categories will be presented with a cash prize of Rs 15,000, while those who come second and third, will get Rs 10,000, and Rs. 5,000 cash prizes respectively.
