Chennai: V K Sasikala, the close aide of former Tamilnadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, will walk out of jail on 27 January.
According to her lawyer, she had deposited her fine amount of Rs 10 crore and was genie eligible for release on the said date.
It may be noted that Sasikala has been lodged in Parappana Agrahara prison in Bengaluru since 2016 after she was convicted in a Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case in which Jayalalithaa was the main accused.
The payment of the fine amount had ensured her early release, though her jail term actually ends on 13 February.
The money was paid by four of her family members—M.Pazhanivelu, Vasantha, Hema and Vivek Jayaraman.
Sasikala had become the AIADMK chief in 2016 after the death of Jayalalithaa. However, after her conviction and imprisonment, Edappadi K Palaniswami became the chief minister.
Edappadi had recently clarified that Sasikala will not be a part of the AIADMK and that no equations will change after her release.
