Southern Railway launches Covid vaccination campaign

Chennai: As the nation continues with the world’s largest immunisation exercise against Covid-19 targeting healthcare personnel and frontline workers in the first phase, Southern Railway also joined the mission and launched the Covid-19 vaccination campaign at Head Quarters Hospital, Perambur.

Southern Railway General Manager John Thomas launched the vaccination drive in the presence of other railway officials.

Speaking on the occasion, he thanked the Greater Chennai Corporation officials for extending their co-operation in the supply of vaccine to Railway hospital.

Dr C V N Murthy, Medical Director, Perambur Railway Hospital, was the first to receive the dose of the vaccination.

Dr Soumitra Sinha Roy, who is spearheading the fight against Covid-19, Dr J Chitra, Additional Chief Health Director, Nodal Officer for the vaccination and Healthcare Workers of the Perambur Hospital, ICF Hospital and Health Units of Chennai Division were also given the jabs.

The Southern Railway’s Headquarters Hospital has received 500 doses, as initial consignment from the Chennai Corporation.

About 1,240 healthcare workers of Perambur Hospital, ICF Hospital and Chennai Division Hospitals will be vaccinated in this phase.
