Later, talking to reporters, he said he took the vaccine shot not as a Minister but as a doctor and as a member of the Indian Medical Association (IMA).

“I took the vaccine shot this as a doctor and member of IMA, to instill confidence among healthcare workers and frontline warriors,” he said.

The Minister also requested all to get vaccinated and safeguard themselves from Covid-19.

He also posted the video of his taking the vaccine shot in his twitter handle and said “got my covaxin shot! Thanks to the team @gmcrgggh for the seamless experience. Appeal everyone to do it when your turn comes. Let’s end #Covid19 together”.

Prior to taking the vaccine shot, Dr Vijayabaskar underwent tests to check his blood pressure and and sugar levels. He said another tranche of 1.69 lakh dones of covaxin would be reaching the State today.

He said s far 907 people have taken the covaxin dose and he was 908th person to take the shot.

During the last six days ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Nation-wide vaccination drive, the response to it in Tamilnadu was relatively less as there were initial apprehensions.

Till yesterday, about 43,000 people, mostly doctors and healthcare workers, have taken the vaccine shot in 166 centres across the State.
