Mission Paani strives for water sustainability

Chennai: News18 and Harpic Mission Paani hosted its first Waterthon celebrating the country’s water heroes.

The eight-hour long Waterthon, broadcasted live on Network18’s TV news channels and digital platforms brought together global policy makers, celebrities from all walks of life, the Armed Forces and corporates to address the criticality of water for hygiene and conservation.

Helping strike the right note by reiterating the campaign’s message has been the ‘Paani Anthem – Swachhta aur Paani’, composed by music maestro A R Rahman and penned by Prasoon Joshi.

Speaking to Akshay Kumar, campaign ambassador for Mission Paani, Rahman shared his thoughts on the small steps that can make a lasting effect on water conservation and said, “It’s the basic things that need to be kept in mind. I close the tap while brushing my teeth and am more aware of the usage of water than what I used to be. These little things can make a huge difference.”

The Waterthon witnessed a series of thought-provoking sessions deliberating on efficient solutions and the need to prioritise efforts towards water conservation. Harpic Mission Paani also launched a special ‘water’ curriculum for school children.
