Chennai: Bank branches across the country may be shut for the next 4 consecutive days due to strike and other bank holidays.
As a result, people can experience difficulties withdrawing money from ATMs and bank branches.
Bank Unions have called for a two-day strike to begin on 15 March to oppose the planned bank privatisation of two state-owned lenders by the government.
Cheque clearances, opening of new accounts, issue of demand drafts and loan processing are likely to be impacted till 17 March.
State Bank of India said it has made arrangements for normal functioning in all branches and offices, but it added that the work may be impacted by the strike.
As the banks remain closed on second Saturdays and Sundays, banking services will remain affected for four days though ATMs will be replenished with cash to enable withdrawals. But other services including cheque clearance will be affected.
