Chennai: Election Commission has said that 2.44 lakh people have applied for postal votes for the upcoming Assembly polls. Out of this 1,59,849 are senior citizens above the age of 80.
“As many as 2,770 police personnel and 33,189 officials who are involved in election duty have also applied for postal ballot,” the Election Commission said.
Meanwhile, officials said that 139 cases were booked till today morning for violating the Election Model Code of Conduct.
A release said that 109 cases have been filed for money and valuable things recovery. “As many as 1796 weapons have been surrendered and 34 rowdies arrested,” the release said.
