Chennai: RPF officials have seized gold jewellery weighing 8820.330 gram (worth Rs four crore) without proper documents from a train passenger in Chennai.
According to sources, the passenger reached Chennai Central from Coimbatore. He told officials that he was carrying the gold for handing over to a leading jewellery group.
He was brought to RPF post and informed to Election Flying Squad and Income Tax Department for verifying the further legal action.
The Railway Protection Force is keeping a special watch on trains and stations to check movement of valuable goods and cash in view of the upcoming Assembly elections in various States.
