Smriti calls Kamal for debate with Vanathi

Coimbatore: Observing that a vote for the BJP was a reflection of faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani has urged the young voters to encourage their friends to vote for the party in the 6 April Tamilnadu Assembly polls.

Canvassing votes for BJP candidate Vanathi Srinivasan, who is contesting against actor-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan in the Coimbatore South constituency, she said during the Covid lockdown, the Centre, through Jandhan accounts, was able to directly transfer money to people’s accounts.

It had also given free rations for eight months to 80 crore families. ‘Imagine if this would have reached the people in Tamilnadu had the DMK been in power,’ she asked.

Highlighting the achievements of the BJP-led government at the Centre, she also challenged Kamal Haasan to have a debate with Vanathi Srinivasan on problems, solutions, policy and governance.

Recalling her debate with him on a television platform, she said, ‘I call upon one who is going around with a torch (Kamal’s poll symbol) to debate with Vanathi Srinivasan.’

“The debate will help voters see the difference like milk and water. Let the voters determine who is better between the two,” she added.

Smriti Irani also said voting was a sacred duty because a vote for the BJP was to uplift the poor.

As a result they would gain good deeds, which would reach them sitting on the lotus (BJP symbol) and not with a torchlight (MNM party symbol), she said.
