Mumbai: With a rapid increase in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra, and the consequent inadequacy of hospital beds and other health facilities, the Maharashtra government is considering imposing a second complete lockdown in the next few days on the recommendation of the State Covid-19 task force.
However, the move has attracted opposition from his own alliance partner, NCP, not to mention angry voices in BJP who warned of public protests. A decision may be likely on 2 April after a review.
The Chief Minister also said that the cases are rising because people are not following guidelines seriously, thereby necessitating steps like lockdown.
During a meeting, he also reviewed health infrastructure including availability of beds, oxygen, medicines etc. in the State to treat Covid-19 patients.
According to Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte, appropriate instructions are being given to the administration to ensure that there is no confusion if a lockdown is imposed. The balance sheet will be maintained so that the financial cycle is not affected.
