Chennai: Tamilnadu Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan today urged people to not beleive ‘rumours’ that lockdown would be imposed after election due to rising Covid-19 cases.
Speaking to the media here, he said corona infection is spreading in a worrying manner and doorstep inspection will be carried out after the 6 April Assembly polls.
“Voters should go to polling booth only by wearing masks,” he said and sought the cooperation of the public.
India added 103,796 cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, breaching the peak of 99,181 seen in a single day during the first wave of the pandemic last September.
As the outbreak continued a relentless expansion, officials express fear over the consequences.
The rapid spread of Covid-19 finally forced the Uddhav Thackeray government in Maharashtra to announce lockdown-like restrictions across the State from 8 pm on Monday. On weekends, a complete lockdown will be imposed.
