Chennai: Polling in the Assembly Elections for four States and one Union Territory was underway today amid tight security and Covid-19 guidelines.
At 7 am, voting for the final phase in Assam, the third phase in West Bengal and the single-phase polling in Tamilnadu, Kerala and Puducherry started.
Puducherry is currently under President’s Rule. The Congress party will contest 14 of the 30 Assembly seats, with the DMK getting 13. On the opposite side, the NR Congress, the AIADMK and the BJP have forged alliance.
As many as 31 seats went to the polls in West Bengal today. In Assam, the final phase saw 40 seats in play, with the ruling BJP aiming for a second term.
It will be a heated contest between CPI (M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and Congress-headed United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala. Meanwhile, BJP is trying to gain a foothold in the state and has fielded some high-profile contestants. All three factions have given their all to secure a win in the state assembly elections.
