Chennai: The Election Commission has issued a notice to DMK youth wing secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin, seeking an explanation on his statement that ‘former Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj died unable to tolerate the torture by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.’
Based on a complaint lodged by BJP leaders regarding Udhayanidhi’s statement during an election campaign in Dharampuram constituency on 31 March, Election Commission of India Secretary Malay Mallick issued a notice to Udhayanidhi.
The actor-politician, who is the DMK candidate in Chepauk-Triplicane constituency, has been asked to submit his explanation on or before 5 pm on Wednesday.
The EC said Udhayanidhi’s remarks were a violation of Clause (2) of Part -1 of the Model Code of Conduct.
Meanwhile, the AIADMK on Tuesday accused Udhayanidhi Stalin of violating the model code of conduct, alleging that he visited a polling booth to cast his vote wearing a shirt with his party symbol woven on it.
