Chennai: PSW Madhava Rao, who contested the 6 April Assembly elections as the Congress candidate from Srivilliputhur constituency, died in Madurai Sunday after testing positive for Covid-19.
Rao had tested positive for the virus during campaigning and was admitted to the government hospital.
As he had serious infection in the lungs, he was shifted to a private hospital in the temple town and admitted in the ICU as his health condition deteriorated. He was also put on ventilator support. However, he breathed his last Sunday.
A legal consultant, Rao has been a member of the Congress since 1986 and had also served as the State vice-president of the Tamilnadu Youth Congress.
Hailing from Watrap in the southern Virudhunagar district, Rao contested the elections for the first time.
TNCC president K S Alagiri, AICC secretary in-charge of Tamilnadu and Puducherry Sanjay Dutt and DMK president M K Stalin condoled the death of Rao.
