Chennai: Tamilnadu Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan has urged the people not to panic in view of the significant increase the Covid cases, which has inched closer to 8,000 mark in the State.
Talking to reporters at the Omandurar Multi-speciality hospital, he said over two lakh cases were reported across the country with States like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Chattisgarh recording a high caseloads.
“Tamilnadu too, is experiencing a surge in cases. People need not panic as the mortality rate in the State is 1.35 per cent. All eligible people above 45 years of age, should get vaccinated. It is important to break the chain of transmission for which wearing masks is crucial,” he added.
Urging the people panic to on seeing the numbers, he advised them not to venture out without wearing facemasks.
“People should understand the reason behind the numbers. If one person is infected, 10 others can be affected,” Dr Radhakrishnan said.
He said despite Covid active caseload has crossed 50,000 in the State, the bed occupancy across the State was less than 10 per cent. In Chennai, the bed occupancy rate was 20 per cent, he said.
