Chennai: At least 13 patients died at Chengalpattu Government Hospital in Chengalpattu late on Tuesday night.
While some reports claimed that the deaths were due to oxygen shortage, Collector John Luis said the hospital had sufficient oxygen supply. He said the deaths were due to a technical glitch in equipment.
An inquiry is underway to ascertain the cause of the deaths.
Tamilnadu on Tuesday registered 21,228 new cases, and the total number of infections has touched 12,49,292.
The capital city of Chennai registered 6,228 cases.
144 patients died, taking the total number of fatalities in the State due to the pandemic to 14,612.
On the positive side, 19,112 patients were discharged from various hospitals in Tamilnadu Tuesday. With this, the total number of recoveries in the State has touched 11,09,450.
