Chennai: Even as the Covid-19 figures are shooting up in the State, finding beds for patients in government and private hospitals are becoming a herculean task in the capital city of Chennai.
The situation is no better in other parts of Tamilnadu, it is learnt. ‘Beds are fast filling up and many patients are being turned away,’ sources said.
Senior government doctors want the government should take over hostels in private medical college campuses for use as Covid Care Centres instead of using hostels in law or engineering colleges and training institutes.
Meanwhile, Health department officials said that work was underway to increase the number of beds and oxygen points to meet the rising demand.
