Covid-19: India reports 4,01,078 new cases and record 4,187 deaths

New Delhi: With 4,01,078 new infections, India’s Coronavirus caseload rose to 2,18,92,676.

According to Union Health Ministry data updated this morning, a record 4,187 Covid-19 deaths were reported in a day, thus taking the total tally to 2,38,270.

The active cases have reached 37,23,446 and the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,79,30,960.

India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on 7 August last year, 30 lakh on 23 August, 40 lakh on 5 September and 50 lakh on 16 September. It went past 60 lakh on 28 September, 70 lakh on 11 October, crossed 80 lakh on 29 October, 90 lakh on 20 November and surpassed the one-crore mark on 19 December. India crossed the grim milestone of 2 crore cases on 4 May this year.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 30,04,10,043 samples have been tested up to May 7 with 18,08,344 being tested on Friday.

The Health Ministry has stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths have occurred due to comorbidities.
