Stalin, EPS and newly elected MLAs take oath


Chennai: The newly-elected legislators of the Tamilnadu Assembly, including Chief Minister M K Stalin and former CM Edappadi K Palaniswami, took oath one by one from today morning.

The process began with Stalin taking the oath. Pro-tem speaker K Pichandi administered oath to him.

Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly will be elected on 12 May. The session is happening in the multi-purpose hall on the third floor in Kalaivanar Arangam on Wallajah Salai in Chennai.

The members were requested to bring their Certificate of Election ‘without fail while presenting themselves for making and subscribing the Oath or Affirmation.’

Near the Speaker’s podium, a table was put up for taking the oath. In the table, copies of Bhagavad Gita, Bible, Quran, Constitution of India and Thirukkural will be placed as a customary practice. The member can take the oath either in the name of God or affirm solemnly as given in the form.
