22,600 beds lying vacant in TN hospitals

Chennai: Gone are the days when Covid patients struggled to get admission in hospitals due to lack of beds.

With Covid cases coming down in Tamilnadu, many hospitals across the State are reporting a good number of vacant beds.

As on Sunday, more than 22,600 beds are vacant at hospitals in the state. This included 6,800 oxygen-supported and 500 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds.

At Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) and Stanley Medical College Hospital, ambulances did not wait in long queues as cases continue to decline in Chennai (2,689 new cases).

But still, the government continues to add more beds as it is not ready to take any chances. On Sunday, a new 150-bedded Covid Care Centre (CCC) was launched at Ayanavaram in Chennai.
